Trusted Assistance with Animals Who Are More Than Just Companions
For many people living with special needs, having an assistance animal is more than just a companion. It is a highly trained and affectionate support partner who can transform daily living. At Care To Heal, we provide assistance animals to eligible participants to ensure they receive the right support throughout their NDIS journey.
What Are Included in Our Assistance with Animals?
Assistance animals are specially trained to perform specific tasks that could help people with different abilities. Unlike therapy animals, assistance animals meet the predefined standards of training and public access rights.
Some instances include:
- Guide Dogs (helping participants living with blindness or very poor vision)
- Hearing Dogs (serves the purpose of alerting in case of alarms, answer the bell, etc. for people with hearing issues)
- Mobility Assistance Dogs (help to maintain balance, open doors and retrieve fallen objects like a walking stick)
- Medical Response Dogs (detecting changes in blood sugar levels of diabetic participants, alert in cases of seizures)
These animals from Care To Heal are recognised under Australian law and meet strict standards set by the NDIS.
Assistance with Animals and the NDIS
The NDIS may only fund an assistance animal if it is deemed reasonable and necessary under your plan. This requires an in-depth assessment of your unique needs, supporting evidence from GPs and allied health professionals, and confirmation that an assistance animal provides benefits that regular support workers cannot. While the NDIS will not directly cover service animals, but it can fund:
- Assessment costs to determine the suitability of assistance animals
- Training costs for the animal.
- Ongoing maintenance costs, such as vet bills, food, and insurance.
Our team also helps your loved ones to navigate this process by preparing paperwork and ensuring applications are compliant with NDIS requirements.
